I HAVE BEEN A PART OF THE MARTIN COUNTY FAMILY FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS, MY WIFE AND MYSELF. I'M A FORMER SCHOOL TEACHER, TURNED A SOCIAL WORKER TURNED PASTOR, AND I FIND THAT ALL HATS, WHEN WORN, COME TOGETHER TO DO SOMETHING WONDERFUL. I'M HONORED TO BE THE FOUNDER OF THE FATHER CHILD CONNECTION. WE BELIEVE STRONGLY THAT IF FATHERS GET A CHANCE TO BE ENGAGED IN THEIR CHILDREN'S LIVES BY READING TO AND WITH THEM, IT'S A WIN WIN. SO THE QUESTION IS, WELL, WHAT ABOUT THOSE CHILDREN WHO DON'T HAVE A FATHER FIGURE? I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED, BECAUSE WE HAVE A THREE PRONGED APPROACH TO GETTING MOMS INVOLVED, WE CALL IT MOMS CENTS. THANK YOU. DISTRICT CHIEF JOSHUA SHELL, I FIRST WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THIS GRACIOUS AWARD. I'M GLAD THAT MY FAMILY COULD BE HERE. MY DAD ACTUALLY SERVED NEARLY 30 YEARS IN RETIRED OUT OF MARTIN COUNTY. I HAD THREE UNCLES, ONE AUNT AND A COUSIN WHO CURRENTLY IS EMPLOYED WITH MARTIN COUNTY. WITH THAT, I'VE WORKED MY WAY UP FROM THE BOTTOM, FROM EMT TO PARAMEDIC TO LIEUTENANT, MOVING UP TO CAPTAIN TO BATTALION CHIEF TO MY CURRENT POSITION RIGHT NOW, DISTRICT CHIEF, I'VE GOTTEN TO SERVE ON SOME OF THE SPECIALTY TEAMS THERE, WHICH I'M VERY PROUD ABOUT. THE TECHNICAL RESCUE TEAM, WHICH ENCOMPASSES ROPE RESCUE, DIVE CALLS, HIGH ANGLE CALLS, COLLAPSES, VERY TECHNICAL TEAM, AND THEN ALSO MOVING INTO THE HAZMAT TEAM I GOT TO SERVE ON FOR A FEW YEARS. HAZMAT ENCOMPASSES LARGE FUEL SPILLS FROM CAR ACCIDENTS, LARGE INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS LIKE YOU GUYS HAVE OUT HERE, AS WELL AS RADIOLOGICAL CALLS. AND WITH THAT, AGAIN, I JUST AM THANKFUL FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY YOU GUYS HAVE GIVEN ME AND JUST THE OPPORTUNITIES MARTIN COUNTY GIVES ME TO SERVE IN THIS CAPACITY. SO I'M GOING TO SAY A LOT OF NUMBERS. I DON'T EXPECT YOU TO REMEMBER ALL OF THEM. SO FOR THIS PAST QUARTER MEDICAL CALLS, WE WERE AT 315 MEDICAL CALLS FOR AMBULANCE RUNS. WE HAD THREE BRUSH FIRES THAT WERE LOGGED DURING THIS TIME, AS WELL AS TWO STRUCTURE FIRES. THAT ALSO HAPPENED. AND WE HAD 28 OVERALL CAR ACCIDENTS DURING THIS LAST QUARTER. SO WITH THAT, I DID WANT TO UPDATE YOU GUYS SOME OF THIS INFORMATION YOU GUYS MIGHT KNOW OR MIGHT NOT HAVE MADE IT TO YOU YET, BUT IT'S EXCITING FOR US. YOU GUYS ARE AWARE OF THE FUTURE GROWTH. YOU'RE FEELING IT. WE'RE FEELING IT.

WE'RE AWARE OF WHAT'S COMING. SO EXCITING NEWS TO US THAT I JUST WANTED TO PASS ALONG TO YOU GUYS. SINCE I'VE BEEN HIRED 23 YEARS, IT'S THE SAME FIRE STATION THAT'S BEEN THERE.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED. A LITTLE BIT OF A FACELIFT. IT HAS THE SAME AMOUNT OF BAYS WHERE WE PARK THE TRUCKS AND THE SAME AMOUNT OF BUNK ROOMS. BUT OUR TRUCKS HAVE GONE UP AND OUR PERSONNEL HAS GONE UP. WE HAVE OUTGROWN IT. WE HAVE TRUCKS IN THE PARKING LOT. YOU CAN SEE IT WHEN YOU DRIVE BY. SO FOR THE LONGEVITY OF THE TRUCKS, IT'S NOT GOOD. SO WE'RE IN NEGOTIATIONS RIGHT NOW WORKING TOWARDS A NEW FIRE STATION AND INDIAN TOWN. AND THIS WOULD BE THE LARGEST STATION THAT WE HAVE. IT LOOKS TO BE ABOUT SEVEN BAYS RIGHT NOW, WHICH WOULD AFFORD US TO PUT ALL OF OUR TRUCKS INSIDE OF THE STATION. IT WOULD ALSO TAKE US FROM ROUGHLY EIGHT BUNK ROOMS TO 15 BUNK ROOMS, WHICH JUST AGAIN, THE PERSONNEL HAS DOUBLED IN WHAT IS NEEDED OUT HERE. PROBABLY SOME OF THE MOST EXCITING THINGS I WANTED TO PASS ALONG TO YOU GUYS IS THE LEVEL OF SUPERVISION WE'RE BRINGING UP BECAUSE OF WHAT'S NEEDED OUT HERE. WE JUST RECENTLY PROMOTED A BATTALION FOUR, WHICH MEANS THREE NEW BATTALION CHIEFS WERE PROMOTED.

SO WHAT THAT MEANS TO THE CITIZENS OUT HERE, IT'S THE HIGHEST LEVEL SUPERVISOR ON THE FIRE SIDE. SO THIS IS THE INDIVIDUAL THAT SHOWS UP ON THE HOUSE, FIRES, THE BRUSH FIRES, THE CAR ACCIDENTS. FLORIDA STATUTES DOES ALLOW IF THERE ARE NO CANDIDATES ON A BALLOT, IT'S LANGUAGE ONLY FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL REGISTERED VOTER TO RECEIVE A BALLOT IN THE MAIL AND TO RETURN IT. SO AS I SAID, STATUTE DOES ALLOW FOR MAIL BALLOT ELECTIONS FOR MUNICIPALITIES AS WELL AS COUNTYWIDE. BUT WE'RE HERE TONIGHT TO ADDRESS THE VILLAGE, THE GOVERNING BODY, WHICH IS YOURSELF, WOULD CALL FOR THE ELECTION.
