WE GOT A MINI GRANT FOR A PROGRAM CALLED PCH STANDS FOR PROTOCOL FOR ASSESSING COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL[00:05:01]
HEALTH. WHAT IT IS JUST A KIND OF A PROTOCOL OR A TEMPLATE FOR IDENTIFYING A NEED IN A COMMUNITY, AND THEN GATHERING COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND THEN ASSESSING THE COMMUNITY TO SEE WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST METHOD TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. SO THE WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. SO WE IDENTIFIED AN ISSUE IN MARTIN COUNTY AND THE VILLAGE OF INDIANTOWN IN PARTICULAR WITH OUR SCHOOL BASED HEALTH SCREENINGS. THEY DO BMI SCREENINGS, WHICH IS KIND OF GAUGE WHERE IN THIS CASE CHILDREN ARE WITH REGARDS TO HEALTHY WEIGHTS. SO THE FIRST, I DON'T KNOW IF EVERYBODY CAN SEE IT. THE DARK TAB RIGHT THERE. THOSE ARE THE PERCENTAGES OF OBESE KIDS IN FIRST, THIRD AND SIXTH GRADE IN MARTIN COUNTY. AND IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT TAB OR CLICK IT AGAIN, THAT'S THE OBESITY PERCENTAGE FOR THE VILLAGE OF INDIANTOWN. YOU CAN SEE IT'S SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER. SAME THING FOR THIRD GRADE. THAT'S MARTIN COUNTY, THAT'S INDIANTOWN. AND THEN SIXTH GRADE. AND THE SAME RESULT FOR SIXTH GRADERS. SO WE SAW THAT THERE WAS A NEED FOR HEALTHY OBESE CHILDREN, LEAD TO CHRONIC DISEASE, DIABETES. A MYRIAD OF HEALTH PROBLEMS GROWING UP. SO AFTER WE IDENTIFIED THAT NEED, WE SURVEYED THE COMMUNITY. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO ADDRESS IT? AND I WILL LET ANGELICA TALK ABOUT THE SURVEYS. SO THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS PROJECT IS THE PROJECT THAT IS DONE IN COLLABORATION WITH MANY ORGANIZATIONS HERE IN MARTIN COUNTY, THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND THE VILLAGE OF INDIAN TOWN PARKS AND RECREATION. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE PEOPLE OF INDIAN TOWN AS WELL. WE DID OVER 600 SURVEYS TO THE PEOPLE HERE IN INDIAN TOWN, AND WE WERE ABLE TO. NEXT SLIDE. WE WERE ABLE TO FIND MANY CHALLENGES THAT PEOPLE HAVE FOR HEALTHY FOOD. ONE OF THEM IS THE HIGH COST OF PRODUCE AND THE LACK OF STORES THAT OFFER AFFORDABLE PRODUCTS, BUT ALSO THE LIMITED TRANSPORTATION.AND IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE FOUND IS THAT 40% OF THE PEOPLE IN INDIAN TOWN DEPEND ON SOMEBODY ELSE TO TAKE THEM TO THE FOOD SOURCE, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO HAVE FRESH FOOD AT HOME. NEXT SLIDE. AND WE ALSO ASKED FOR WHAT IS THEIR PERCEIVED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. AND WE FOUND THAT THESE WERE THE THREE TOP CHOICES. AND FROM THESE A FARMER'S MARKET CAME OUT AS THE MOST IMPORTANT CHOICE FOR MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN OUR SURVEYS. NEXT SLIDE. SO SINCE THEN, WE'VE BEEN WORKING IN CREATING A FARMER'S MARKET FOR INDIAN TOWN, A FARMER'S MARKET THAT IS AFFORDABLE, THAT IS ALSO ACCESSIBLE FOR THE PEOPLE IN INDIAN TOWN. AND WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE SOME EXISTING SOURCES OF FOOD. AND SO WE CREATED A FLIER THAT I'M GOING TO LINK HERE IN FOR YOU GUYS TO ALSO TAKE IT HOME. BUT AND, AND THAT IT HAS AFFORDABLE PLACES WHERE YOU CAN FIND FOOD HERE IN INDIAN TOWN WHILE WE CONTINUE WORKING ON THE FARMER'S MARKET AND BRITTANY, JOHN PHILIP FROM AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION IS GOING TO TELL YOU MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT. SO NEXT SLIDE. SO WE KNOW THAT THAT FLIER HIGHLIGHTING SOME OF THE EXISTING RESOURCES, JUST A SHORT TERM OPPORTUNITY. AND THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION WOULD LIKE TO ADVOCATE FOR THE VILLAGE OF INDIAN TOWN TO RECEIVE APPROPRIATION FUNDS FROM MARTIN COUNTY IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH AND SUPPORT AN INDIAN TOWN FARMER'S MARKET FOR THREE YEARS. SINCE THIS WAS THE MAIN PRIORITY THAT THE RESIDENTS WANTED TO SEE, AND THAT THREE YEAR BUDGET THROUGH THE FUNDS WOULD INCLUDE STAFFING AS WELL AS THE START UP COSTS FOR THE MARKET. ANY MARKETING, ADDITIONAL LIABILITY OR MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES OR FEES ASSOCIATED WITH THAT ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MARKET. AND I WILL PASS IT OVER TO DEBBIE TO REALLY SHARE ABOUT SOME OF THE LOGISTICS AROUND THE MARKET. WHEN WE ARE LOOKING TO PUT IT INTO PLACE. ALL RIGHT. SO IN OUR DISCUSSIONS, WE TALKED ABOUT LAUNCHING THIS MARKET SOMETIME IN OCTOBER OF 2025. WE THINK IF WE CAN GET THE FUNDING TOGETHER THROUGH MARTIN COUNTY AND WE CAN GET SOME STAFFING TO HELP SUPPORT IT, WE'LL BE ABLE TO BRING A FARMER'S MARKET TO POST-FAMILY PARK. IN THE SURVEY,

IT WAS DETERMINED THEY WERE LOOKING FOR A CENTRALIZED LOCATION, AND WE FEEL THAT POST-FAMILY PARK COULD MEET THOSE NEEDS. IT WOULD ALSO ALLOW A PLACE FOR US TO GET SOME OF THE VENDORS WHO ARE SELLING FOOD ON OUR STREETS INTO A CENTRAL LOCATION, WHERE WE COULD PERMIT THEM THROUGH THE VILLAGE OFFICE, MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE NECESSARY LICENSES, AND RUNNING THEIR OPERATION THROUGH A PARK WHERE WE WOULD HAVE SOME GUIDANCE FOR THEM AND WHERE THEY WERE AND HOW THEY WERE SELLING, AND WE FEEL IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO BOTH THE COMMISSION AND TO THE VILLAGE OF INDIAN TOWN TO CREATE THIS LOCATION FOR THE COMMUNITY. AND WE'RE GOING TO MARK IT WITH IFAS AND THE EXTENSION OFFICE THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHERE IT IS. AND WE WOULD START OUT SMALL. AND THEN AS THE DEMAND GREW, BUILD FROM THERE.AND I BELIEVE I'M TURNING IT BACK OVER TO NICK. ONE THING I DID FORGET TO MENTION WAS SOME OF THE PREVIOUS PACE PROJECTS THAT WE'VE HAD IN MARTIN COUNTY. THEY INCLUDE WAY BACK WHEN SURVEYING THE COMMUNITY AND ASSISTING WITH BRINGING SEWER AND WATER TO BOOKER PARK. WE DID THE SAME THING WITH GOLDEN GATE AND STUART, AND WE DID A BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT IN PETTWAY. WE DID A PROJECT TO STUDY THE MERCURY LEVELS IN HAIR OF CHILDBEARING AGE WOMEN. AND THEN WE ALSO ASSISTED THE CITY OF STUART WITH INSTALLING SPEED BUMPS IN THE EAST AND CROSSWALKS IN EAST STUART NEIGHBORHOODS. SO THESE ARE ALL PROJECTS THAT HAVE STARTED AND COME TO FRUITION. SO THERE'S NO REASON THAT THIS SHOULDN'T EITHER. AND I JUST FORGOT TO MENTION THAT SOME OF THE BENEFITS THAT WE'LL SEE, THAT WE COULD SEE WITH THE FARMERS MARKET IN THE VILLAGE WOULD BE OBVIOUSLY, THE WHOLE PREMISE OF THIS IS MORE ACCESS TO HEALTHIER FOOD OPTIONS, THE AFFORDABILITY OF THE FRUITS AND OR HEALTHY FOODS. SO THE PLAN IS TO HAVE A $1 FOR DOLLAR MATCH WITH FRESH ACCESS BUCKS TO EVERY SNAP OR EBT DOLLAR SPENT, AND THEN THE LOCAL COLLABORATION WITH FARMERS WHO HAVE AGREED TO PROVIDE US WITH WHOLESALE OR WHOLESALE OR BETTER PRICES TO KEEP THE COST DOWN. THE ECONOMIC IMPACTS, LIKE DEBBIE MENTIONED, HAVING THE LOCAL LIKE COTTAGE FOOD INDUSTRY FOLKS BE ABLE TO HAVE A CENTRALIZED LOCATION TO PROVIDE THEIR SERVICES AND SHOWCASE THEIR GOODS, WALKABILITY, GET PEOPLE OUT WALKING AROUND GOING TO THE FARMER'S MARKET, AND THEN JUST THE OVERALL PROMOTION OF HEALTHIER FOOD OPTIONS AND HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE LEADS TO GENERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS AND REDUCES THE BURDEN ON THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM WITH LONG TERM CHRONIC DISEASE AND OBESITY LEVELS AND STUFF LIKE THAT. SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE, YOU KNOW, NOT EVEN IMMEDIATELY, BUT WAY DOWN THE ROAD. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE. AND THEN A PORTION OF THAT WOULD ALSO GO TOWARDS FEEDING SOUTH FLORIDA, FEEDING FLORIDA, WHO WOULD BE THE PERSON WHO WOULD MANAGE THE FRESH ACCESS BUCKS, WHICH MEANS THAT ONCE AN INDIVIDUAL COMES TO THE MARKET THAT THEY SPEND $1 ON PRODUCE, THEY'D GET $2 WORTH THROUGH THAT PROGRAM. SO PUTTING A LOT OF RESOURCES AND EFFORT BACK INTO MAKING SURE THAT THE GREEN AREAS AND GREEN SCAPE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY ARE PRESERVED AND ENHANCED, IT'S A LOT EASIER TO JUST PRESERVE IT AND A LOT HARDER TO ENHANCE IT. AND OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ENHANCE EVERYTHING ON THIS PROPERTY SO THAT IT ULTIMATELY CAN BE UTILIZED BY BY THE PUBLIC THERE. AS A COMPANY, WE RECOGNIZE THAT WE TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION TO ADD ADDITIONAL WATER TRUCKS AND ADDITIONAL BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES. WE'VE BEEN DEVELOPING FOR A VERY LONG TIME, SO WE WERE ABLE TO UTILIZE OUR EXPERTISE AND OUR RESOURCES TO MAKE SURE THAT WE UPPED THE WATER TRUCK DISBURSEMENT OF WATER. WE WERE PUTTING DOWN OVER 500,000 GALLONS OF WATER A DAY ACROSS THE OPEN FIELD AREAS. WE SPOKE WITH NICK BLOT ABOUT HOW IT'S A HOUSING SOLUTION COUNCIL, ABOUT A HOME BUYING WORKSHOP. IN CHAPTER TWO, GOING THROUGH AND REVISING ALL OF THE LANGUAGE IN IT TO REFERENCE THE APPROPRIATE VILLAGE OFFICERS AND SO ON, AND THEN ALSO ADDING ON, IF YOU RECALL FROM YOUR DISCUSSION BEFORE A CITATION PROCESS, THAT CITATION PROCESS WAS MODELED ON THE CODE PROVISIONS IN EFFECT IN THE CITY OF STUART.
